There are always those who are quiet, but bear in mind that in university, quiet, and studious do not correlate. If you happen to be an introvert, step out of your comfort zone because being sociable is the best way to get information on class replacements, homework and exam tips.

Be part of a club or society

This will carry weight on your CV, gain you extra skills, and some friends for life through shared experiences like club activities. Additionally, being proactive and taking on positions of responsibility will help you cultivate leadership skills. It may be challenging to juggle club responsibilities and your college assignments, but all that effort will pay off.

Participate in university events

University events are a great way to learn more about your institution and they are a great way to meet people from other institutions. Your university will always be on the look-out for participants for university-based as well as inter-varsity competitions.

Study smart, not hard

If you have tried study groups that are ineffective, try other methods until you find a suitable one. Study buddies work too, but too many people would be distracting, hence a study buddy or two would be appropriate.

Take extra subjects that interest you

Do not limit yourself to subjects on your course only when there are so many things that you could learn while at university. For example, if your major is Engineering but you have always been drawn towards Psychology, what you can do is to take additional subjects that are related to Psychology. If your schedule is packed, you can try to attend guest or public lectures in topics that interest you.

Volunteer your time for community projects

This will be an invaluable experience that helps you contribute back to society, and learn to appreciate the many gifts in life. Additionally, it will make service to the community an integral part of your university experience and something that you can continue doing even after you complete your university studies.

Learn a new skill

Learning a new skill will help keep your mind sharp, and will eventually have a positive impact on your studies. These skills could be as simple as cooking, or painting. As long as it is something you have always wanted to try, your university years are the best time to explore these skills and interests.

Be active in sports

Sports can keep you fit, be a good stress-reliever, and help you integrate into college life. There are numerous benefits that come from being active in sports, like discipline, and being part of a team to name a few. Additionally, you may be able to compete in tournaments and gain experience in competitive sports.

You need to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge in your subject area to enable you to graduate. Therefore, make it point never to miss a class unless you are ill in bed.

Be practical

Many students purchase laptops with bigger screens to watch movies or play games during breaks. Avoid this as the weight of carrying your laptop daily will take a toll on your back. Average-sized laptops are recommended. Furthermore, stationaries you need are simply a few pens, pencils, notebooks, and some correction fluid.

The three or four years at university will pass very quickly so make the most of your time at university. When you graduate, you will have bigger responsibilities to shoulder so start being more proactive in university today.
